Le dénouement de cette saison #11 restera gravé dans les mémoires. Faire un évènement de ski de randonnée en évoquant l’Everest et Tahiti, il fallait y penser. Pari gagné pour toute l’équipe du club Courchevel Sports Outdoor à l’issue de cette saison bien particulière. Cette idée un peu folle a jailli début février quand la décision de ne pas reconfiner a été prise par les Pouvoirs Publics et que le concert initialement prévu pour conclure cet hiver avec Keen’V ne pouvait pas être maintenu normalement. L’organisation originelle de la course a dû s’adapter pour respecter le protocole sanitaire en modifiant le planning des traditionnels rendez-vous hebdomadaires du mercredi soir à 18h pour les reprogrammer sur 2 jours (les mercredis et samedis de 10h à 15h). Pendant ces 5h de présence, une idée originale d’effectuer un maximum de montées pendant ce laps de temps a été soufflée aux organisateurs par Jonathan Lamy, un sportif accompli membre du club organisateur qui partira gravir l’Everest le 4 avril prochain. L’engouement était au rendez-vous dès le lancement de ce nouveau challenge. A l’issue de cette première expérience, le staff a vite compris qu’il serait difficile de faire plus de 6 montées dans le temps imparti sur le parcours de vertical race de 3,2km pour 500m D+, d’où l’idée de créer un nouveau défi : le Challenge Millet 3000. Cette épreuve consiste à réaliser 6 montées en moins de 5h le plus rapidement possible (seules les montées sont chronométrées). De plus, elle représente la base de qualification pour le défi Millet Everest des 20 et 21 mars.
Le premier Ultra en ski alpinisme à Courchevel : le défi Millet Everest !
Novateur dans la discipline du ski de randonnée depuis ces 11 dernières années avec la création du premier parcours permanent balisé et 
sécurisé, créateur de concepts originaux déposés, Courchevel devient la première station à organiser un Ultra en ski alpinisme : Le défi Millet Everest. Une course de 9000m D+ est née, en ski de randonnée (on parle plus en dénivelé et moins de kilomètres parcourus). Cette épreuve principalement réservée aux experts de l’ultra endurance a vu s’affronter 39 sélectionnés pour cette première édition avec un plateau relevé. Parmi eux, il faut noter la présence d’une pléiade de champions nationaux et internationaux dans les domaines du ski alpinisme, du trail, du triathlon, du VTT et de l’Xterra à l’image de Cédric Fleureton, David Poncet, Nicolas Lebrun, Corinne Favre, René Rovera, Grégoire Curmer, Maud Gobert, Alexandre Pellicier pour ne citer qu’eux. 2 jours de compétition pour gravir 9000m de D+ sur le parcours des Millet Ski Touring (3,2km / 500mD+) soit 18 montées (57,6km / 9 000m D+) pour atteindre l’altitude du sommet de l’Everest (8849m) en partant du niveau de la mer, le plus rapidement possible (seules les montées sont chronométrées dans le laps de temps imparti). 5000m D+ devaient être réalisés le samedi 20 mars entre 7h et 17h avant de passer la nuit sous tentes (- 10°) au camps de base (front de neige de Courchevel aménagé pour l’occasion) avant de repartir le lendemain dès 7h30 pour accomplir les derniers 4000m D+ avant 15h30.
L’Everest pour Corinne Favre et Alexandre Pellicier
A l’issue de ce premier ultra où la gestion des temps de pause et du ravitaillement était primordiale pour atteindre l’objectif dans les meilleurs délais, Alexandre Pellicier, champion du monde ski alpinisme par équipe en 2008, vice-champion d’Europe par équipe en 2007 et 3ème de la Pierre Menta en 2007, l’emporte en 8h43min44s, devant Jocelyn Verdenal, spécialiste de vélo de route (2éme du Tour du Mont Blanc en 2019) en 8h47min58s et le vététiste Jonas Buchot (lauréat en 2019 du Raid de la Meije et du Raid des Mont d’Ardêches agrémenté d’une belle place 8ème en coupe du monde marathon à Bouillon en Belgique), méritant 3ème en 53min36s.
Le vainqueur de la dernière édition de la Diagonale des Fous, Grégoire Curmer échoue au pied du podium en 9h03min44s devant le champion du monde master de ski alpinisme David Poncet 5ème en 9h18min26s.
La suite du classement démontre la qualité intrinsèque du plateau : 6ème en 9h21min04 Nicolas Lebrun (champion du monde de XTerra en 2005), 7ème en 9h22min48s Dorian Colliard (10ème des championnats de France de vertical Race U23 en ski alpinisme), 8ème en 9h34min12s le triathlète René Rovera (victoire sur l’Ironman de Lanzarote en 2004 avec une dizaine de participations aux finales mondiales à Hawaï entre 1996 et 2007), 9ème en 9h50min37s Jonathan Lamy en pleine préparation pour son ascension sur le toit du monde, 10ème en 9h56min05s, François Lesca, guide de haute montagne, moniteur ski de fond et d’escalade. A la 11ème et dernier à terminer sous la barre des 10 heures (9h59min43s), Cédric Fleureton, vice-champion d’Europe de triathlon en 2005 et 2006, triple champion de France de trail (2014,2015 et 2016), 3ème des mondiaux de Trail en 2017, 7ème de mondiaux de Swimrun en 2017, 5ème des mondiaux de Xterra en 2017 et 2019, complète ce tableau d’exception.
Chez les filles, la championne du monde de ski alpinisme Corinne Favre s’impose en 10h32min52s devant la 9ème des Millet Ski Touring Courchevel 2021 Véronique Lathuraz en 11h10min25s. De retour à la compétition, la championne du monde de trail 2011 Maud Gobert s’adjuge la 3ème place en 12h11min04s. Mention spéciale à Pascale Gachet-Mauroz de l’ESF Courchevel Village, qui, après avoir participé à toutes les MSTC depuis plusieurs années, a réalisé 9 montées avant d’être stoppée par les délais. Parrain de cette compétition, Dawa Sherpa, la légende du sport népalais, n’a pas manqué de féliciter chaleureusement les 34 concurrents qui sont arrivés au terme de ce défi de folie.
Direction Tahiti pour le sacre d’Axelle Gachet-Mollaret et de Thibault Anselmet des Millet Ski Touring Courchevel 2021
Le chanteur Keen’V, commandant de bord de ce rendez-vous spécial à destination de Papeete Tahiti pour la finale des Millet Ski Touring Courchevel, était aux manettes de cette manifestation. 160 passagers ont embarqué sur ce vol ultra festif tous ornés d’un collier de fleurs offert au départ. Débutée le mercredi 17 mars, une première escale de cette ultime course a enregistré la participation du vainqueur de la Pierra Menta 1998 Sébastien Figliolini, directeur du magasin partenaire « le Camp de Base » et vainqueur de l’Everest en 2003, accompagné de son fils Gaspard (10 ans) qui termine en 42min30s. Une première journée marquée par l’énorme performance de la Slovaque Marianna Jagercikova, vice-championne du monde de sprint et médaillée de bronze au classement général des championnats du monde de ski alpinisme 2021 qui s’était propulsée à la seconde place du général en 27min05s. Malheureusement pour elle, Jessica Pardin, très motivée, a claqué le dimanche, la perf’ du week-end en 26min53s, synonyme de victoire pour cette manche 12 et de seconde place au scratch général. La triple championne du monde de ski alpinisme et double vainqueur de la Pierra Menta, Valérie Ducognon prend la troisième place de cette ultime manche. Au général final, bien que titillée jusqu’au bout, Axelle Gachet-Mollaret s’impose pour la 5ème année consécutive en 25min58s
Chez les hommes, de grosses performances pour les 3 premiers qui intègrent de ce fait le Top 10 final. Samuel Equy, médaillé de bronze sur l’épreuve de vertical des championnats de France de Ski Alpinisme 2021, s’impose en 22min34s. Il devance Julien Bernaz crédité de 23min25s, un temps qui lui permet de s’imposer en catégorie U23. Sur la 3ème marche, le champion du monde master Yoann Caillot conforte sa place de leader en O40 en 23min43.
Pour le classement général final, le champion de France toute catégorie Thibault Amselmet succède au Suisse Rémi Bonnet dans l’excellent temps 21min48s. Il devance le vice-champion de France de Vertical Race 2021 Gédéon Pochat en 21min50s et le champion du monde longue distance 2021, l’Italien Michele Boscacci (22min11s).
L’apothéose finale avec Keen’V….
Pour ce dernier vol en direction du paradis après l’escale du mercredi, beaucoup de voyageurs s’étaient déguisés pour devenir la(e) plus Tahitienne ou Tahitien possible. Il a été une fois de plus très difficile pour le jury de départager le plus beau déguisement parmi l’ensemble des participants retenus. Au final, un tirage au sort pour le prix du meilleur déguisement « Deguisetoi.fr » a désigné Joseph Samson, récompense remise par Keen V.
L’apothéose finale de ce week-end ensoleillé marqué par l’arrivée du printemps et de cette 11ème édition des Millet Ski Touring Courchevel s’est déroulée à huis clos dans la salle de spectacle Gilles de La Rocque. La cérémonie s’est achevée en présence de Jean-Yves Pachod, maire de la station qui est venu remettre les Trophées en Crystal 2021 « René et Raymond Millet », les fondateurs de la marque partenaire Millet, aux grands vainqueurs 2021 Axelle Gachet-Mollaret et Thibault Anselmet.
Un beau spectacle qui a regroupé tous les lauréats ainsi que les 4 compétiteurs qui ont couru l’intégralité des 12 manches de la saison : Mireille Franchino, Pascale Gachet-Mauroz, Jonathan Lamy et Philippe Mottier. Une fin de journée animée par Ludovic Collet et Keen’V rythmée au son du tube de l’été 2020, disque d’or après seulement 9 mois : TAHITI !
